Edit Ruano is the Director of Regional Communications Strategy for The Wilderness Society.
She guides a team of stellar communicators working across the Western United States to protect our national parks and public lands.
She brings strategic communications, media relations, storytelling and grassroots engagement expertise to the organization. At Pivotal Ventures, Melinda Gates’ investment and incubation company, she served as senior program communications manager. She previously provided campaign and communications support to leading nonprofits and foundations as a director at Spitfire Strategies. She also contributed to successful advocacy campaigns while at Full Court Press Communications. Throughout her career, she has worked on issues like immigration, health care, education, environmental protection and gender equity.
She holds a B.A. in History and Political Science from the University of California, Davis. Her childhood in the Sierra Nevada foothills gave her an appreciation for starry night skies, the smell of pine trees and robust beers. Having moved there from Mexico, she also learned the value of a welcoming community.
